Canary Island – Lanzarote

Die Insel der Vulkane durften wir uns natürlich nicht entgehen lassen. Voller Vorfreude schnappen wir uns die Fähre von Corralejo Fuerteventura aus nach Playa Blanca Lanzarote. In nur 35 Minuten erreichen wir die nächste Insel.

The island of volancs we had to visit of course. Very edxcited we caught a ferry from Corralejo Fuerteventura to Playa Blanca Lanzarote. In only 35 minutes we reach our next island.

Wir wollten ursprünglich Richtung Costa de Papagayo, aber die Strasse führt in den Nationalpark – da muss man Eintritt bezahlen. Das möchten wir nicht und suchen daher ein anderes Plätzchen. Wir fahren über die LZ2 zum Playa de Janubio. Auf dem Parkplatz am Strand direkt hinter der Laguna de Janubio finden wir unseren ersten Platz. Einige anderen Wohnmobile stehen auch schon da. Die Aussicht ist perfekt allerdings kommen hier ganz viel Touristen vorbei, sprich ruhig ist es nicht. Und ja, wir sind umgeben von Lavasteinen :o)

Originally we wanted to stay at the Costa de Papagayo but the roads leads into a national plark – hence you have to pay entry. We don’t want to do that so we look for another place. We drive via the LZ2 to the Playa de Janubio. On the parking space at the beach just behind the Laguna de Janubio we find our first place. A few other campers are already there. The view is stunning but there are a lot of tourists coming and going, hence it is not going to be quiet. And yes, we are surrounded by lava stones :o)

Heute ist es soweit: wir fahren durch den Timanfaya Nationalpark :o) Ich bin echt schon gespannt, wie die Gegend so ist. Wir wissen allerdings, dass wir hier nirgends stehen bleiben können um zu übernachten. Naja egal, Hauptsachte Vulkane schauen. Wir merken auch schnell, dass die Insel viele Touristen anzieht. Wir kommen auch vorbei an der Kamelsafari – kann man machen, muss man aber nicht. Eindrücklich sind die Farben der Vulkane in der Sonne. Von rötlich über braun zu schwarz alles da. Echt beeindruckend.

Today is the day: we drive through the Timanfaya National parc :o) I’m really excited to check out the scenery. We already know though that we can’t stay the night in the nationcal parc. While driving, we realize very quickly that the island attracts a lot of tourists. We also pass the camel safari – something you can do but don’t have to. Very impressive are the colors of the vulcanos in the sun. From red to brown and black everything is possible.

Wir fahren weiter über Mancha Blanca Richtung La Santa. Dort gibt es eine Ecke für Surfer. Schön hier aber wir suchen etwas mehr Ruhe. Also fahren wir etwas zurück und dann zum Barranco de Burro. Der Weg dahin ist perfekt für jedes Offroad Fahrzeug. Und die Kulisse einfach spektalulär.

We head on via Mancha Blanca towards La Santa. There is a place for surfers. It is nice but we are looking for a bit more quiet. So we head back a bit to get to the Barranco de Burro. The road to get there is perfect for an offroad vehicle. And the scenery is spectacular.

Nächstes Highlight auf unserer Reise ist die Ahumaderia de Uga. Dort gibt es geräuchterten Lachs und Käse. Leider war der Fisch bei unserer Ankunft bereits ausverkauft. Aber wenn ihr die Möglichkleit habt, unbedingt vorbeigehen. Wir fahren weiter Richtung Norden der Insel vorbei an den grossen Weingütern von La Geria und und El Grifo. Wir sind fasziniert von der Art, wie hier die Reben gepflegt werden. Jede Rebe hat ihren eigenen Steinzaun als Schutz vor dem Wind. Die Landschaft sieht dadurch nochmals spezieller aus.

Next highlight on our travel is the Ahumaderia de Uga. There you get smoked salmon and cheese. Unfortunately the fish was already sold out when we arrived. But if you have the chance to visit, do so. We head on to the north of the island passing the big wineries of La Geria and El Grifo. We are fascinanted by the way, each vine is treated. Each vine plant has its own stone fence to protect it from the wind. The scenery looks even more special beacause of this.

Heute fahren wir zum nördlichste Punkt der Insel in Órzola. Das Wetter schlägt um und es beginnt zu regnen. Gegen 23 Uhr entscheiden wir uns, umzuparken, da wir hier auf Sand stehen und bei dem Starkregen ein Wegkommen eventuell schwierig sein könnte. Ja das gehört auch zum Campen – spontane Planänderungen 😉 Neben einem Aloe Museum an der Hauptstrasse bleiben wir für die Nacht stehen.

Today we drive to Órzola the most north point of the island. The weather changes and it starts to rain. Around 11 pm we decide to move as we are standing on sand and with the heavy rain it might be difficult to get out. Well yes, this is also part of Camping – spontaneuos plan changing 😉 On a parking lot of an Aloe museum next to thte main road we find a safe place for the night.

Unsere Zeit auf Lanzaorte geht zu Ende. Fazit: Lanzarote ist eine sehr schöne Insel aber für Wohnmobile nur bedingt geeignet. Es gibt wenige Plätze, die Wohnmobile tolerieren, nur einen Campingplatz, der lediglich im Sommer geöffnet ist. Die Vulkane sind eindrücklich, aber alles, was sehenswert ist, ist nicht kostenlos. Im Vergleich zu Fuerteventura, ist Lanzarote für unsere Art zu reisen weniger geeignet.

Our time in Lanzarote is over. Conclusion: Lanzarote is a very beautiful island but not really made for campers. There are only a few places, where campers are being tolerated and there is only one campsite, which opens during the summer months. The volcanos are very impressive, but everything you can visit is charged. Compared with Fuerteventura, Lanzarote is less suitable for our way of traveling.
