Schneller als gedacht verlassen wir Belgien und fahren weiter Richtung Holland. Die Grenze unspektakulär auf einer Landstrasse. Die erste Nacht verbringen wir direkt hinter einem Deich. Ein kleiner Spaziergang trotz schlechtem Wetter musste sein – schliesslich muss man ja sehen, was hinter dem Deich liegt 😉 . Windig, regnerisch und kalt war die Nacht. Gegen Mittag am kommenden Tag klopfte es an der Tür – die Polizei 😮 Wir wurden darüber informiert, dass übernachten nur auf Campsites erlaubt ist. OK, dann müssen wir wohl einen Platz für heute suchen.

Sooner than expected we leave Belgium and head on to the Netherlands. The border is very unspectacular on a small road. The first night we spend behind a dike. A short stroll despite the bad weather because I had to see what was behind the dike 😉 . Windy, rainy and cold was the night. Around noon there was a knock on the door – the police 😮 . We were informed that staying overnight outside a campground is not allowed in the Netherlands. Ok, so we have to look for a place tonight.
Wir fahren also via Terneuzen über den Westerscheldetunnelweg Richtung Kats. Auf einem Bauernhof finden wir eine Mini-Campsite. Passt für eine Nacht.

Kinderdijk
Ich liebe Windmühlen! Davon hat ja Holland die eine oder andere 😉 In der Nähe liegt das UNESCO Weltkulturerbe Kinderdijk. Leider ist es für Wohnmobile – trotz Nebensaison – nicht möglich, direkt am Museum zu parkieren. Auch im Dorf gibt es nur Parkverbotstafeln. Heisst, uns wird der Zugang zum Museum madig gemacht. Die Windmühlen wollen wir aber trotzdem sehen. Wir fahren durch das Dorf und überlegen, am Dorfplatz zu parken. Nach erneutem prüfen von Google Maps finden wir eine kleine Zufahrtsstrasse zum Kinderdijk. Da wir nicht planen, lange zu bleiben, riskieren wir es, schnell stehen zu bleiben, um die Kulisse zu geniessen. Insgesamt stehen hier 19 Windmühlen aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Für das Wasserpumpen sind sie nicht mehr im Einsatz. Trotzdem sind sie alle in sehr gutem Zustand und erfreuen sich hoher Beliebtheit bei den Touristen. Es können im Ort Fahrräder gemietet werden um die Polder entlang der Windmühlen zu erfahren.

I love wind mills! Heard that there are some in the Netherlands 😉 Close to where we are there is the UNESCO world heritage Kinderdijk. Unfortunately it is – although it is low season – not possible for campers to park at the museum. Also the village is full of parking forbidden signs for campers. Checking google maps again we find a small road leading towards the Kinderdijk. As we are not planning to stay for long, we risk parking there to quickly enjoy the beautiful scenery. In total there are 19 windmills from the 18th century. The water pumps are no longer in use. However they are all in very good condition and are welcoming a lot of tourists every year. In the village you can rent bicycles to cycle around the Polder passing all the windmills.
Gouda
Bisher nur als Käsesorte bekannt, ist ein Besuch des Ortes Gouda natürlich ein Muss. Über die spektakuläre Zeelandbrug geht es Richtung Gouda. Ein hübsches kleines Dorf mit einem wunderschönen Ortskern, der von dem gotischen Ratshaus aus dem 15. Jahrhundert geprägt wird. Viele kleine Geschäfte und vor allem einen super Käseladen mit allerlei Sorten zum Probieren ❤ Auf jeden Fall ein Stopp wert! Es gibt 5 Minuten vom Ortskern entfernt einen kostenpflichtigen Parkplatz für Wohnmobile mit Stromanschlussmöglichkeit.

Until now only known as a cheese, a visit to the village of Gouda was a must. We cross the spectacular Zeelandbrug to reach Gouda. It is a scenic little village with a very beautiful center where the gothic town hall built in the 15th century. A lot of small stores and of course a unique cheese store with all kinds of different cheese flavors to taste ❤ definitely worth a stop! 5 minutes walk from the center there is a paid overnight spot for campers with the possibility to connect electricity.
Zandvoort
Wir fahren weiter Richtung Zandvoort – wiedermal zum Meer. Das Wetter ist sehr windig und frisch. Der Weg dahin führt durch ein wunderschönes Naturschutzgebiet mit vielen Campingplätzen. Am Strand gibt es lediglich einen Stellplatz für Wohnmobile auf einem Parkplatz ohne Service. Nicht sehr preiswert aber dafür mit traumhafter Aussicht. Von hier aus ist auch die Formel 1 Strecke zu sehen.

We head on towards Zandvoort – sea side again. The weather is very windy and chilly. The drive leads us through a very beautiful nature reserve with lots of campsites. At the beach there is only one overnight spot for caravans on a parking lot without service. It is not cheap but offers a fabulous view. You can even see the Formula 1 track from here.
Simonehoeve
Bekannt für seine Klompen war es ebenfalls ein Must-see: Eine Klompen- und Käsefabrik in Volendam. Natürlich alles sehr touristisch aber dennoch interessant, diese Vielfalt der unterschiedlichsten Klompen zu sehen. Wusstet ihr, dass bei einer traditionellen Hochzeit in Holland extra ein paar Klompen angefertigt wird welche dann an der Hausfassade aufgehängt werden? Simonehoeve hat aber auch eigene Käsesorten: Von Bierkäse über Hanfkäse bis hin zu Lavendelkäse ist alles dabei. Auch eine Liköre werden produziert. Die Übernachtung mit dem Wohnmobil ist auf dem Parkplatz kostenlos möglich.

Known for their famous Klompen, this place is a must-see: A Klompen and cheese factory in Volendam. Of course it is all very touristy but still very interesting to see the variety of Klompen. Did you know that for a traditional Dutch wedding a pair of Klompen is made and worn by the wife during the wedding. After the wedding, they are nailed on the house. Simonehoeve also offers a huge selection of different cheese: From beer cheese to hemp cheese and lavender cheese you can get almost everything. You can enjoy it with their homemade liquor. You can stay overnight with the camper for free on their parking lot.
