6 months on the road

Wow – Ich kann es kaum fassen dass wir schon 6 Monate unterwegs sind! Die Zeit ist so schnell an uns vorbei gezogen – Wahnsinn! Hier mal eine Ansicht aus Google Maps, wo wir überall waren in den letzten 6 Monaten (Gelbe Markierungen). Die grünen sind Orte, welche wir noch gerne anschauen möchten.

Wow – I can’t believe that we are already 6 months on the road! Time flew by so fast – Incredible! To give you an idea of where we have been in the last 6 months, check out a screen shot from Google Maps (Yellow marks). The green marks are places we still want to visit.

Live is a journey – get on it and live it your way

Der Mensch ist ein Gewohnheitstier – daher haben viele Respekt oder gar Angst davor, die gewohnte Umgebung hinter sich zu lassen um ins Ungewisse zu gehen. Auch ist für viele der soziale Zwang, etwas anderes zu machen als die „Masse“, eine Barrikade.
Da wir ja schon länger wussten, dass wir diese Erfahrung machen wollen, war es für uns nicht mehr so schwer. Im Gegenteil, jeder materielle Ballast, den wir los wurden, befreite uns mehr. Klar, Freunde und Familie zurück zu lassen ist nie einfach. Aber in der heutigen Zeit mit Internet ist das auch leichter.

Humans are creatures of habit – that might be the reason why most of us have concern or are even scared to leave their comfort zone and head to the unknown. Also the social constraint to do something different than the „rest“ might hinder you.
Since we knew that we wanted to make this experience for quite some time, it wasn’t as hard. Quite the opposite actually, the more material ballast we got rid of, the more Independent we got. Of course leaving friends and family behind is never easy. However in the time we live in with constant Internet availability it is a lot easier.

Die am häufigsten gestellte Frage: Ist es so wie ihr es euch vorgestellt habt? Antwort: Nein, viel besser! Logisch ist nicht immer alles eitel Sonnenschein, wie es in vielen Social Media Profilen suggeriert wird. Man lebt auf sehr kleinem Raum zu zweit, heisst, man lernt sich nochmals anders kennen. Es gibt wenig Privatsphäre und bei schlechtem Wetter fällt das offene Wohnzimmer weg. Das kann dann schon mal schwierig werden. Dem gegenüber stehen so viele positive Dinge: die Freiheit, dort hin zu fahren, wo man möchte, dort zu schlafen wo man möchte, mit Leuten zu sprechen oder auch nicht. Diese Möglichkeiten unser Leben so zu gestalten wie wir es möchten ist unbezahlbar.

The question I get asked the most: Is it what you thought it would be? Answer: No, it’s a lot better! Of course it isn’t always like a fairytale, like it seems on social media. You live on a very small space with another person, which means you get to know that person on a completely new level again. There is next to no privacy and when the weather is bad, you loose the open living room. This may be difficult at times. On the opposite there are loads of positive things about this lifestyle: the freedom to drive where you want to, to sleep where you want to, to speak or not speak to people. The possibilities to live your life the way we want to is priceless.

Some Facts – Summary on the last 6 months:

• 7 Countries
• Drove 9000 km
• Filled up 921.99l of Diesel
• 0 Fines
• 1 x sent away from an overnight spot by the police
• 1x changed the overnight spot at 1 am Feeling uncomfortable
• 1 broken TV
• 1 water pump broken, turns out I riped the Connection cable by adding to much stuff to the drawer – *oops* – water pump was ok ;O)
• 1 pair of shoes lost as we left them on the tank and drove off

Fazit:
Alles in allem ein gelungener Start in unser neues Leben
